  • Museo Sorolla - Joaquin Sorolla was an Impressionist from the city of Valencia and his former studiomansion in Madrid has been converted into a museum reproducing perfectly a typical early 20th century house
  • Palacio Real de La Granja, near Segovia - commissioned by the Bourbon king Felipe V in 1719, the palace and magnificent gardens have been described as the first great building of the Spanish Bourbon dynasty
  • Salamanca - add a two night stay in Salamanca, one of Spain’s most beautiful cities, taking in its two cathedrals, the university, the best Plaza Mayor in Spain and the beautiful Art Deco museum of Casa Lis

“Well – another triumph! A huge success. Great hotels, lovely cities, and some excellent privileged access.”

We were very lucky to enjoy privileged access to many places that the general public never gets to see. Well now it is time to plan next year’s tour…

We much enjoyed our recent trip to Madrid, with art galleries and side visits, organised by you. The use of a tour manager was particularly helpful in the big galleries (the Prado and the Thyssen), and the overall guiding provided by him was very impressive. His ability to give specific information plus contextual information based on his knowledge of Spain extremely helpful. This was a holiday that added a lot of value to the basic travel, and I felt we should record our appreciation.

I have recently returned from a tour of Classic Spain with my Society and, once again, would like to compliment your company on an excellent service, having been on similar holidays in the last 3 years. I would particularly like to commend our tour guide, Paul, who went beyond his remit in ensuring that we all made the most of the holiday. His commentaries during the coach journeys were both informative and entertaining and I felt his input added greatly to the success of the tour.

This was a very good tour, led by a knowledgeable, courteous and helpful guide. The hotel was central and within easy walking distance from galleries, Retiro Park and Atocha station. All travel was comfortable & well driven, the arrival at the airport and our flight back was uneventful. Thank you to all at Tailored Travel for the arrangements.

I just wanted to thank you very much for arranging such an interesting tour. We seemed to have the right amount of time to see what we wanted in Madrid both as a group and with a decent amount of free time. Our local guide was excellent – very knowledgeable and also very entertaining. The visit to Toledo was such a contrast and actually I would have liked another hour to explore. I’m so glad you included a stop at Avila and could have stayed a little longer to see the cathedral properly. Salamanca was another contrast and we had time to relax – the Art Nouveau Museum was a complete surprise and very lovely. El Escorial gave us an insight into the austere mind of Philip II and the weather turned cold and wet in sympathy! Paul was a very good tour manager and looked after us very well.

Just wanted you to know how much I enjoyed your holiday in the company of our DFAS group. Paul our tour manager was excellent, extremely well-informed, and always kind and helpful. I had never been to Spain before and it was a wonderful experience and I am so glad I decided to travel with you. Thank you.

On behalf of our Society I would like to thank you for suggesting and organising such a successful tour to Spain. Paul was a superb tour manager and we are so grateful that you recommended that we moved dates to fit in with his availability. The group really appreciated having such a knowledgeable and friendly leader. We look forward to Sicily next year which Joanne will start promoting next week.

I want to say how much I enjoyed the week, which was an excellent mix of guided tours and free time. All the local guides were very good, in particular the guide in Madrid and our Tour Manager were excellent. If he had any problems we were not aware of them and he had a wealth of useful and incidental information that he shared with us on the coach journeys. I am so pleased that we had two nights in Salamanca, which is a beautiful city but I would have appreciated an extra hour in both Toledo and Avila. The location of both hotels was excellent.

Our party of 40 returned home early on Friday morning after a most successful trip to Madrid. May I thank you for your personal support during the run-up to the trip. You responded to my queries and changes most expeditiously which gave confidence to a relatively new ‘player’. All the paperwork helped me greatly and the party members thank you for the individual letters they received.

The holiday to Madrid was excellent and we visited many lovely places. Our tour manager, Paul, made our holiday so much more pleasurable by always entertaining us with his knowledge of the area and with his wit. He proved very helpful in many ways and very caring of some older members of our tour. We would certainly enjoy his company on a tour again in the future.

I am writing to thank the team at Tailored Travel for arranging such an excellent tour to Madrid for the members of our Society. We all enjoyed the trip immensely, and in particular we would like to thank Damian and Sandy for all the arrangements that were made on our behalf. We would also like to thank Paul, our tour manager. Throughout the trip he looked after everyone with great care and attention, and was always aware when the less mobile in our group needed extra help. He was a most informative and entertaining guide with a great sense of humour. In summary he was outstanding, and he enhanced our tour considerably. I would be grateful if you would pass on our thanks to all concerned.

I can honestly say that Paul was the best Tour Manager that I have come across. He seems to have a vast wealth of knowledge and a very finely tuned sense of timing when it comes to humour, brilliant. He is the only Tour Manager I have met who introduced himself to and said goodbye to each person and helped everyone put their luggage onto the scales at Madrid. Segovia was a delight and in my view a better location to stay than Salamanca but I appreciate that there are fewer hotels available in Segovia so you did well to find the one we stayed at. The hotel in Madrid was very good with an excellent first night buffet and breakfasts. The visit to Aranjuez proved to be a great success and due in part to Paul's efforts we were able to see the Palace, the Gardens, the Barge Museum and have the boat trip. The later proved to be a great success with free drinks and nibbles. Several people commented that it was excellent that the day ended with an opportunity to relax and watch the world go by. I think the whole trip was a great tribute to you all made all the better by the fact that Margaret, Neil and I got much of the credit for it and I would like to add my thanks to you all.

Everyone was full of praise and had a wonderful time. Paul was an excellent tour guide and it was great having someone who was so conversant with the lingo and who seemed know most of the guides and coach drivers. He was full of unfailing good humour and knew all the information without referring to notes as well as giving lots of interesting background facts about the country itself. I do hope that we get to use his services at some future date. The Itinerary worked well with plenty of free time for people to do their own thing. The hotel in Madrid was very close to the museums and town centre with plenty of eating places close at hand. A very good choice, so thank to whoever organised it. The first hotel was a short cheap taxi ride from the town centre and close to a variety of supermarkets. Chinchon caused Paul some worry as he wasn’t sure where the restaurant was but when he had found it up above the main square and he had organised a car to take up the four who had trouble walking uphill he led us forth and it was well worth it. We all had a great evening with true local food and wine and a lovely welcome from the staff and owner. They also took the four members back to the coach. It was a great area to visit. Thank you to you both for all the hard work you put in to give us such a good time. Thank you again.

Thank you very much for arranging everything for what, I think, was an excellent visit to Madrid – I returned with the same number, and I reckon they were the same people – though with a lot less energy by then!! Our tour manager, Paul, was brilliant – should have a pay rise, tell Mike!! He looked after us with great care, immediately ‘sussed out’ the members who needed a bit of extra help, and remained cool and calm throughout – and had a great sense of humour as well (which he probably needed with our lot!!) The hotel was good and well placed for walking to museums, etc. – we did far more walking to places than we usually do, but everyone managed it. The rooms were comfortable, well fitted, good lighting, and so on. I hope all this is of some use – thanks from everyone – especially me! Here’s to the next time!

Just a note to thank you for arranging a superb holiday to Madrid for us. We all enjoyed ourselves and I've received no complaints. Indeed, folk are asking where we are going next year. Thanks are due too to Paul, our tour manager, who was very helpful, friendly, knowledgeable and entertaining. We are grateful to him. Many thanks again to Tailored Travel and you and Paul particularly.

PB, Wallingford September 2014

The tour was enjoyed by all and went well. It wasn't perhaps the visual delight of Grenada and Seville, but Madrid certainly impressed us and the museums were a treat. We much appreciated having Paul again as our tour manager; he was very helpful on many occasions and kept us informed and amused in equal measure. Not knowing a great deal about Spain, it was good to have his commentary on historical, political and artistic matters. The guides were also very good, Maribel who took us on 3 occasions was very knowledgeable and conveyed her interest well. The most engaging was probably the guide for the Reina Sofia- sorry, have forgotten her name. The visits to Avila, Segovia and Toledo were interesting and the drives were very picturesque. The coach drivers were very good at choosing the suitable vistas, especially for Toledo. Thank you also for all your input and help over the past five years. I am going to stop doing the trips for personal reasons, though Angela will be carrying on. We would certainly like to carry on with TT, we have found that the trips have been trouble free and good value, as well as interesting itineraries and excellent guides. Many thanks again to all the team at TT and especially to Mike.

RH-G, Buckhurst Hill June 2013

As a member of the committee that organised our trip to Madrid, I thought you would like to know that all the arrangements were very successful. The balance of the programme was just right for our sightseeing and Paul, our tour manager, was excellent.
