Day 1 – Anglesey Abbey
Board our private executive coach at your preferred pick up points – Anglesey Abbey near Cambridge, a Jacobean style house built on the site of a 12th century Augustinian priory, contains a priceless art collection and one of the National Trust’s largest collections of clocks – check in at the 4* Marriott Hotel on the outskirts of Huntingdon.
Day 2 – Cambridge & National Horseracing Museum
Guided tour of Cambridge covers the most important aspects of the city, University and colleges – the award winning National Horseracing Museum at Newmarket depicts the story of the horses, people, events and scandals that have made the sport so colourful.
Day 3 – Bury St Edmunds & Ickworth House
Guided tour of Bury St Edmunds takes in St Edmundsbury Cathedral, a place of worship for nearly 1,000 years, and the Theatre Royal, a rare and outstanding example of a Regency playhouse – the National Trust’s Ickworth House, located in 70 acres of stunning gardens and 1,800 acres of idyllic ‘Capability’ Brown parkland, is dominated by its huge central Rotunda dating from 1795 and is home to a fine collection of Old Master paintings, silver and Regency furniture.
Day 4 – Ely Cathedral & Wimpole Hall
Guided tour of Ely Cathedral, known locally as ‘The Ship of the Fens’ and internationally famous for its Octagon and Lantern Towers – time at leisure in Ely and you may choose to visit the Stained Glass Museum, a hidden treasure within the Cathedral, displaying over 100 original stained glass panels dating from the 13th century – the National Trust’s Wimpole Hall is a magnificent 18th century house featuring work by Gibbs, Flitcroft and Soane.
Day 5 – Audley End House and Gardens
At English Heritage’s Audley End House and Gardens near Saffron Walden we discover the sumptuous splendour enjoyed by royalty and the aristocracy in one of England’s grandest stately homes.
