Suggested Itinerary
Day 1 – Bled
Scheduled flight to Slovenia from your preferred airport – transfer with our tour manager in our private executive coach to the 4* Best Western Plus Lovec Hotel in Bled.
Day 2 – Guided tour of Lake Bled, Bled Castle & Traditional Pletna boat excursion to Bled Island
Morning at leisure to take in the beauty of Lake Bled – scenic guided tour this afternoon includes Bled Castle, the oldest castle in Slovenia and perched above the glacial Lake Bled, and a traditional Pletna boat excursion to Bled Island to visit the Church of the Assumption, dating back to the 17th century.
Day 3 – Guided tour of Ljubljana
Guided tour of Ljubljana takes in the Baroque Old Town which is nestled at the foot of Castle Hill, the Art Nouveau mansions and some of the masterpieces of the world renowned architect Jože Plečnik – afternoon at leisure to further explore this Baroque city.
Day 4 – Postojna Caves & Lipica Stud Farm
The day is at leisure or you may choose to join our optional excursion to the picturesque south western region of Slovenia – Postojna is one of the world’s largest cave systems that are accessed by underground train – at Lipica enjoy a riding performance of the famous Lipizzaner horses.
Day 5 – Cruise from Izola to Portoroz & Piran
The picturesque Adriatic coast line is our destination today – an included cruise takes us from Izola to Portoroz, home to one of the largest marinas on the Adriatic coast – Piran has preserved its medieval layout with narrow streets and compact houses which rise in steps from the coastal lowland into the hills and give the whole area a typical Mediterranean look.
Day 6 – Bled
Morning at leisure in Bled – transfer to the airport for our scheduled flight home.

Just a quick email to say that we all had a wonderful time in Slovenia. As you know we had to fly to Venice which meant we didn’t arrive till midnight at our hotel but they had left cold platters in our rooms and we had a leisurely start the next day. Our guide was very knowledgeable and had a lovely sense of humour. The coach and driver were excellent and the hotel was very comfortable. We visited a wide range of interesting places but there was also time to relax and socialise. Thanks for all your hard work and organisation. I’m now being asked to plan our next European adventure.

None of our U3A group had ever been to Slovenia before so we didn’t know what to expect. Our 4* hotel at Lake Bled was only a 45 minute drive from the airport and had a truly magical setting, with both alpine and lake views towards the iconic church on the island. Our tour included visits right across Slovenia from the alpine countryside around Lake Bled to the flatter areas towards the Adriatic and the resorts of Piran and Portoroz, also taking in the capital Ljubljana with its riverside cafes, churches and markets. Some of us also went to the amazing Postojna cave complex close to the Italian border. Everybody was impressed with Slovenia, a small country with a small population, where everyone was welcoming and friendly. This holiday was voted by our group as one of the best ever thanks largely to our superb local tour guide and driver as well as all the arrangements provided by Tailored Travel.
