Reviews for Art, History & Heritage of Liverpool

Just to let you know we have said goodbye to our Blue Badge guide after three exceptionally successful days. Even our driver took the microphone and said ‘after 30 years of driving I have never had such a knowledgeable helpful and cheerful guide’. She was indeed one reason, as well as the program, that it has been so appreciated and enjoyed.

[To Peter Medhurst] I just wanted to extend a huge thank you to you for such a marvellous 5 days in Liverpool. There really are not enough adjectives to describe each wonderful day. Your organisation, along with Tailored Travel, was impeccable. I learned so much and I don’t think there was much room left for more information. Your retention of facts is incredibly amazing. You truly are unique combined with being a kind and caring host. The week did me a world of good after a bad start to the year. My friends encouraged me to do something for ‘me’. Luckily I had already booked this trip last August and I feel so much better after those few days. I am now looking forward to the Gilbert and Sullivan tour in August. I loved your morning lectures and felt so privileged to hear you in a small very elite group and not just on Zoom. The theme running through the lectures was so perfect. It was so good to finally meet you. Best wishes and thank you again for a really memorable week. See you on Zoom

[To Peter Medhurst] It was very kind of you to write so promptly on our return from the outstanding Liverpool trip which we really enjoyed. The trip was most enjoyable in so many ways, hugely as a result of your meticulous planning, together with the outstanding services of Simone and Maric (?), both so friendly and attentive. Simone is one of the best guides we have ever encountered, so knowledgeable, and moving through the various galleries at just the right pace, even for the 'elderly'!! It was good that the group was so friendly and not too large. As a result we could enjoy all the wonderful things on the programme, without being 'moved on' too rapidly. We hope we may be able to join another of your groups in the future, and can only repeat our thanks to you , ensuring our enormous enjoyment of the whole 5 day programme.

I want to thank you for doing all the booking for the trip to Liverpool. The organisation was wonderful and went exactly to your plan which you had put together so well. As a first time Visits Organiser I was a little nervous and you kindly accepted my pre trip jitters and then put together a fabulous itinerary. Your choice of guide was a joy. She was very professional and had a vast knowledge of Liverpool, art and architecture. She was never flustered and never made the group feel “herded”. The driver was also excellent – we felt we were in very safe hands and he and the guide worked very well as a team. We were also blessed with good weather the whole time! Hanbury Hall was a good stopping point on the way up.  The National Memorial Arboretum coming down was very good, and we were lucky that they had a small Grayson Perry exhibition going on. The Marriott Hotel in my opinion was perfect for our group and in Covid times. It was not too busy so people felt OK walking around and a big plus was that the coach (with some manoeuvring) could be parked right outside.  The dinner on the first night was very good. Port Sunlight was a contrast to busy Liverpool and we were able to slow down the pace which we all enjoyed. The Anthony Gormley statues were highlights. So thank you again for organising this visit, there is a vast amount of preparation and  meticulous planning that goes into every trip and you and Tailored Travel obviously have a very good system to make sure it works so well. With best wishes,

Sue, October 2021

On behalf of the group who went to Liverpool this week can I say a huge “thank you” for all your hard work in ensuring we had a wonderful trip. Organisation was first class, Sandy, under very difficult Covid compliant circumstances (and the odd little irritation at the end which you handled very firmly, quite rightly, but diplomatically!)  All went very smoothly due to your efforts. Our guide was excellent and our driver very cheerful!

I know I have already spoken with Michael, as always keen to know how we got on with feedback etc. That's of course how you have such a superb business, attention to detail with care. We had a wonderful tour to Liverpool. It was everything you said it would be and more. The pace was perfect and was clearly perfectly judged. This was a tour for art lovers but so much more. It was a revelation. The timing of the day at Crosby Beach had been planned to coincide with the tide being out. How did you manage a sunny day as well? Our guide was excellent and went over and above to look after us. He knows everything there is to know about Liverpool. He has even written the quiz book of Liverpool. Our driver was also excellent and looked after us very well indeed. The Crowne Plaza was beautifully placed for us. We enjoyed the views, good food and helpful staff. Last but not least Louise looked after our every need. All in all a successful tour. So Thank you.

We have just returned from the recent tour to Cheshire and Liverpool, and I am writing to say what a fantastic holiday we have had. We thoroughly enjoyed the itinerary, the hotel and food were first class, and our tour manager was marvellous! He was so helpful and courteous, kept us amused and informed on the coach and nothing was too much trouble for him. The two Blue Badge guides were excellent, and of course our driver, Ewan, was without fault. All in all a very enjoyable holiday.

We have good memories of the holiday in Liverpool. Thank you once again for organising the holiday for us, as I said to Louise her timings were spot on and it made it so much easier as the driver knew Liverpool very well. Everybody we have spoken to since we got back seemed to have enjoyed it, so that's the main thing.

On behalf of everyone who travelled on our "Liverpool 2017" trip, thank you for all your hard work, fortitude and patience with us. The balance of National Trust, Art Galleries, Cathedrals etc was just right.

The trip was a great success and we returned last night with 30 happy members. Most of them found that Liverpool exceeded their expectations and would have liked an extra day as we were kept rather busy. We had an excellent coach and driver, so personable and a brand new coach. Our Blue Badge guide was very knowledgeable and clear, much liked by the group.

Well we are back after an exciting week in Liverpool. Thanks for everything which worked seamlessly and what a Blue Badge Guide - she was outstanding.

We had a very enjoyable holiday to Liverpool. The weather was generally excellent, particularly on Wednesday when most of us visited Crosby Beach to look at the Anthony Gormley statues, and even on the days that we had rain, it had cleared up by the time we went to the coach. The hotel was good and the food was excellent. Our Blue Badge guide, on Tuesday morning, was excellent. She was knowledgeable and entertaining and looked after us well. Port Sunlight was a most interesting visit, and, as stated, entry into the art gallery was free. The holiday was well-planned and enjoyed by all.

Liverpool was a great success, everyone thoroughly enjoyed the. It is a truly splendid city with so much to see and do. Our Blue Badge Guide was also very good and certainly ‘knew her stuff.’ Our two coach drivers were excellent and we felt totally safe in their hands. Both journeys went without a hitch and Shugborough and Compton Verney were very good places to stop for lunch, R and R.

Our tour to Liverpool last week was a great success. Although our DFAS has been using Tailored Travel for some years for our UK tours, (and I have been on most of them), this of course was my first as the Tours Secretary and Group Leader. I want to say how impressed I was with the whole operation, from the start with your suggested itinerary, to the publicity brochure and the final detailed briefing for both myself and the group members. In particular Louise has been a joy to work with throughout - helpful, knowledgeable and she is a great asset to the company. With regard to the tour itself, the hotel was pretty good. The food was good with plenty of variety. Our Blue Badge Guide was a delight and certainly enhanced the tour with her knowledge, and the "Vox Whisperers" really helped - a great addition. The itinerary was spot on and we were able to pace the tour very well, given the age group. The coach and driver were both very good indeed. Many members asked that we have both the same coach company and driver for our Sussex tour next year! I hope that this is helpful Michael and I look forward to working with you on our Sussex tour for next year.

We returned yesterday from the very best of trips to Liverpool. Everyone had a fabulous time, from Day 1, starting with Ferry across the Mersey, we knew we were on a winner. Louise, your organisation was exemplary; our guide, was superb. Having someone point out landmarks and buildings makes all the difference, no matter how much swotting you do in advance. Neither could we fault the hotel: set meals for groups are often pretty average but not so this time. On arrival, the concierge insisted on taking me to meet the chef to discuss the menu he had devised, and for both nights it was 4 star. Everyone was delighted. I am writing separately to the hotel to commend him. Thank you, Michael, for resolving the one issue we had with you so amicably, Ian was quite amenable to leaving at 4.30 if we made our own way down to Albert Dock, and everyone was happy to do that. Eleven opted to share taxis rather than walk and honestly the expense was so reasonable that I am not passing it on to you - although your offer to foot the bill is much appreciated. I'm sure it would have cost a lot more in Edinburgh! Thank you, everyone concerned. We all came home tired but very happy.

I am just writing to thank you so much for all your work and efforts to organise a successful trip to Liverpool for our Society. It all went off very smoothly and a good time was had by all. Everybody kept on saying that the arrangements were superb. I was going to do a feedback questionnaire but we all agreed that it's wasn't worth doing one because we would all have said it was "excellent". I have written to the coach company to say how wonderful our main driver, Peter, was and also Gary who needed to stand in for one day. The coach itself was very good. The Blue Badge guide, Elizabeth, was very good. The audio headphones were very good and much appreciated by the (elderly) group. Louise, thank you so much for arranging such a wonderful trip.

Just to let you know that the holiday was a resounding success. Everybody enjoyed it greatly and the variety of properties visited was much appreciated. The hotel was very comfortable. All the staff were very nice, but the waiting staff were really excellent and couldn’t do enough for us. The coach was very comfortable and the driver did a good job. Thank you for all you did in arranging the visits to properties – everything went smoothly. Finally, a big thank you to all at Tailored Travel who contributed to making our holiday so very enjoyable and successful. Our members are all looking forward to Yorkshire next year.

I am writing to say how much my group enjoyed our trip to Liverpool:

  • Marriott Hotel - staff very friendly and helpful
  • Lunches at Shugborough and Speke Hall were just what we needed and worked without a hitch
  • Blue Badge guides were excellent - Elizabeth Newell and Ann Marshall had the knowledge and being a NADFAS lecturer knew exactly what the group wanted and looked after us well
  • Cathedral recital, son et lumiere, given by one of the top 5 organists in the world was fantastic - dinner afterwards was very good - really enhanced the tour
  • Guide, James, in St Georges Hall was brilliant as was the building itself
  • Coach company was very good. The driver was very impressed by the maps and overhead views of the streets which he received from you.

I think you will have gathered that my group had a wonderful, trouble free trip with lots of special memories – thank you all very much for all your hard work. Next year we fancy North Devon and we would like TT to help us organise it please!
