Day 1 – Lille

Board our private executive coach at your designated pick up points – take the cross Channel ferry from your preferred port (or travel by Eurostar from London St Pancras or Ashford International to Lille - to Lille – supplement payable) – continue on to the 4* Mercure Lille Marcq en Barouel Hotel on the outskirts of Lille.

Day 2 – Guided tour of Lille & guided tour of Palais des Beaux Arts de Lille

Guided walking tour of Lille takes in sights such as the Palais Rihour, the Main Square, the Opera House, the Old Stock Exchange and the Notre Dame de la Treille Cathedral – guided tour of the Palais des Beaux Arts de Lille, considered one of France’s most important galleries with a wonderful collection including Flemish and 17th century Dutch paintings and grand altarpieces by Rubens and Van Dyck.

Day 3 – Villa Cavrois & Tourcoing Botanical Gardens

Villa Cavrois, designed by Robert Mallet-Stevens and constructed in Croix between 1929 and 1932 for Paul Cavrois, is a contemporary château combining classical design and modernist aesthetics and one of the most famous works of modern architecture in France – Tourcoing Botanical Gardens, with its formal garden and English section created in 1917, offers a rich variety of plants such as acacia, yew and black pine.

Day 4 – Musée Louvre-Lens

Made up of four buildings which its creators intended to resemble four boats, carefully docked alongside one another, a guided tour of the Musée Louvre-Lens introduces us to the collection of objects loaned to it from the Musée du Louvre in Paris – the afternoon is free in Lens to explore the wonderful Art Deco architecture of the town.

Day 5 – La Piscine Musée d'Art et d'Industrie, Roubaix

La Piscine Musée d'Art et d'Industrie, an Art Deco municipal swimming pool built between 1927 and 1932, is an architectural masterpiece now showcasing fine arts, applied arts and sculpture – continue for our Channel crossing back to the UK and then return to our original departure points with comfort stops en route.

Four nights on half board basis at the 4* Mercure Lille Marcq en Barouel Hotel on the outskirts of Lille. Facilities at the hotel include a bar and all rooms are en suite.

It was a great trip, driver superb and lovely hotel, the only fault being inability to choose the evening meal. We all were bowled over by the Villa Cavrois! And our guide at both the Musee des Beaux Artes and Louvre-Lens was superb.
