Suggested Itinerary

Day 1 – Rouen

Board our private executive coach at your designated pick up points – take the cross Channel ferry from your preferred port – continue with our tour manager to Rouen and check in to the 3* Mercure Hotel Champs de Mars.

Day 2 – Guided tour of Rouen, Monet’s Garden & Musée des Impressionnismes

Our guided tour of Rouen this morning introduces us to sights such as the picturesque half-timbered houses and architectural treasures including the Notre Dame Cathedral and St Ouen Abbey – Monet’s Garden at Giverny, where the artist painted his Waterlillies series, is asymmetrical with an exotic Japanese feel to it and Monet came here repeatedly through his life – the nearby Musée des Impressionnismes is dedicated to the history of Impressionism and its aftermath and its more distant impact on the second half of the 20th century.

Day 3 – Château de Miromesnil & Musée des Beaux Arts, Rouen

Guided tour of Château de Miromesnil, the birthplace of the French writer Guy de Maupassant, and where four centuries of architectural styles are evident in the château while ancient cedar of Lebanon dominate the magnificent gardens and in the kitchen garden squares separated by grass pathways are ordered with a fantastic harmony of vegetables and flowers – guided tour of Musée des Beaux Arts in Rouen introduces us to an outstanding collection of paintings, drawings and sculptures by renowned artists such as Caravaggio, Monet and Sisley.

Day 4 – Honfleur, Musée Eugène Boudin & Seine Estuary cruise

Located in a 19th century chapel and named after Honfleur’s most famous painter, a guided tour of the Musée Eugène Boudin explores a fine collection of impressionist works by artists such as Boudin, Dubourg, Monet and Jongkind – time at leisure in Honfleur to explore the town from which numerous French artists drew inspiration – an included 90 minute boat trip along the beautiful Seine Estuary, passing under the Pont de Normandie.

Day 5 – Le Jardin Plume

Created in 1997 by Sylvie and Patrick Quibel, a guided tour of the stunning contemporary Le Jardin Plume reveals huge plantations of grasses and perennials as well as a central square pond, seasonal gardens and a vegetable garden, all set in a typical Norman orchard – continue for our Channel crossing back to the UK and then return to our original departure points with comfort stops en route.

Reviews for Art, Châteaux & Gardens of Normandy

Date of tour: May 2017

Organisation was excellent, comfortable coach, very good hotel, excellent Tour Manager and driver. We saw a lot and how lucky we were with the weather! Sunny visit to Giverney (it rained as we walked back to the coach) and hot and sunny when we came out of the museum in Honfleur after a damp morning spent indoors.

Thank you so much for all your help with our trip to Normandy. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The variety of chateaux and gardens was just right and our tour manager was excellent.
