Day 2 – Le Vasterival & Château de Miromesnil

Le Vasterival, one of the finest private gardens in Europe, was created in 1957 by Princess Sturdza and its sweeping paths, long vistas and huge variety of plants make this garden breathtaking in its scope – guided tour of Château de Miromesnil, the birthplace of the French writer Guy de Maupassant, and where four centuries of architectural styles are evident in the château while ancient cedar of Lebanon dominate the magnificent gardens and in the kitchen garden squares separated by grass pathways are ordered with a fantastic harmony of vegetables and flowers.

Day 3 – Musée Eugène Boudin & Honfleur

Located in a 19th century chapel and named after Honfleur’s most famous painter, a guided tour of the Musée Eugène Boudin explores a fine collection of impressionist works by artists such as Boudin, Dubourg, Monet and Jongkind – rest of the day is at leisure in Honfleur to explore the town from which numerous French artists drew inspiration.

Day 4 – Monet’s Garden, Musée des Impressionnismes & Rouen

Monet’s Garden at Giverny, where the artist painted his Waterlillies series, is asymmetrical with an exotic Japanese feel to it and Monet came here repeatedly through his life – the nearby Musée des Impressionnismes is dedicated to the history of Impressionism and its aftermath and its more distant impact on the second half of the twentieth century – return to Rouen to relax for the remainder of the afternoon.

Day 5 – Musée des Beaux Arts, Rouen

Guided tour of Musée des Beaux Arts in Rouen introduces us to an outstanding collection of paintings, drawings and sculptures by renowned artists such as Caravaggio, Monet and Sisley – continue for our Channel crossing back to the UK and then return to our original departure points with comfort stops en route.

Tour Reviews

Reviews for Art, Châteaux & Gardens of Normandy

Once again a wonderful and successful Tour of Normandy. This inspite of all the difficulties caused by COVID. We organised this trip with you two years ago but it was worth waiting for it. The organisation, as always, was excellent. Everything meticulously planned. Petra was always there for us when needed. Our Tour Guide was wonderful, his first hand knowledge of the area and his abilities to sort out some difficulties to do with COVID procedures meant our trip was truly tailored for us! He is also a very good photographer so our group photo made us all look good. We felt like pioneers post COVID, but in safe hands! Thank you. Very best wishes,

Just to praise our tour manager and the driver – they were both superb at their respective jobs and were very friendly and personable – ideal. The Mercure Hotel was good overall. Lovely comfy beds and an excellent location. The quality of the food itself was good. Breakfast provided a good selection but no English tea bags!!!!! We were in France!!!! Thank you.

Organisation was excellent, comfortable coach, very good hotel, excellent Tour Manager and driver. We saw a lot and how lucky we were with the weather! Sunny visit to Giverney (it rained as we walked back to the coach) and hot and sunny when we came out of the museum in Honfleur after a damp morning spent indoors.

Thank you so much for all your help with our trip to Normandy. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The variety of chateaux and gardens was just right and our tour manager was excellent.
