Tour Reviews

Reviews for Art & History of Hidden Umbria

Thank you so much for arranging a superb trip to Hidden Umbria for us. Many said it the best trip they had been on. And I will say it was superbly arranged. The travel was smooth and trouble free. The hotel was superb, an interesting historic family hotel with fascinating decoration and superb staff who looked after us very well, including making bookings for us at local restaurants. The initial meal was excellent, as was the final meal, which we all enjoyed very much. We also managed to find excellent food throughout the week. Andrea was one of our best tour guides. He was friendly, knowledgeable about the area, had a good sense of humour, was efficient and well organised and looked after us in all ways with concern. The trip would not have been the same without him. The guides we had were equally good, in particular Maura, who was so knowledgeable, pleasant and good at communicating, we had a separate collection for her at the end of the trip. Whether we can do a 17th trip in 2025 has not been agreed yet, but we will get back to you when we look like having a plan.

Thank you very much for organising our trip to Umbria which has been a resounding success. Even before we left Italy people were asking where our next trip would be. I have received emails and cards from nearly everybody saying how much they enjoyed it. The feedback for the hotel has been good. The staff were friendly, professional and ready to help out with any problems. Andrea was excellent. He put in a lot of work liaising with the tour guides and the places we were going to visit. All of the tour guides were good, and what Mauro does not know about Art History is not worth knowing! Our coach driver Firenze was lovely and because he doesn't speak English I spoke French with him, as did some of the others in the group. The food at the restaurant in Spoleto was good and the staff there were good as well.  The family at the agriturismo were very welcoming and the food was very good. They brought their cars down to where the coach was and ferried people up the long drive to the farm. The welcome drinks and amuse bouche were appreciated after an early start and our visits to Sansepolcro and Arezzo. The members enjoyed the visits to the wine tasting, candle and paper making and the visit to the olive oil tasting was a particular success. The lady there who explained the process was very good and answered a lot of questions from the group and there was more than a bit of a spending spree in the shop! I would recommend this visit for other trips. It was a full itinerary which some found a bit overwhelming though they tended to be the ones that found it difficult walking in some places, but they were made aware of that in the brochure. Some did decide not to join the trips and either stayed at the hotel or went for a coffee while the visit was taking place. Again, thank you very much.

I am just writing to thank you very much for the excellent service your company provided for the wonderful trip to Umbria at the end of April. Everything was organised to the last detail and the guide, Andrea was brilliant. He was extremely professional, thoughtful and very generous in his kindness looking after all us “oldies” in the group. The Italian guide Myra was also excellent and very knowledgable imparting her extensive information in a light hearted but professional manner. The coach driver also needs mentioning for his superb and comfortable driving on sometimes challenging roads! I can honestly say that it was one of the best holidays I have experienced and has certainly whetted my appetite for more! We have all, of course thanked Moira and her committee for their part in organising it but I felt I would like to also express my gratitude to you for a trip that lived up to all my hopes and expectations.

Yet again you did it. Each time we return from a Tailored Travel (Sandy Cornish) tour we say “that was the best trip” but you really surpassed yourself with our Umbrian trip. Andrea was always smiling and we gradually became aware how good he was at the managing part of his job.  A very nice touch, on first meeting us he gave each one of us his business card and said to ring him at any time if we had a question or if we were in trouble.  He was always buying tickets, liaising with the guides, persuading the driver to bring the coach up or down to save us climbing or using rope ladders to come down. He did a fantastic job, he is also a great fan of yours, Sandy Cornish’s name was sacred (such a pleasure to work on any of her tours). Omar, our driver, was incredible, always smartly dressed, always charming and helpful, and what a driver!! We all fell for Maura, such a brilliant actress, so enthusiastic, encyclopaedic knowledge, you could not take your eyes or ears off her when she was in full flow. The hotel was very good, such a fabulous location. You did a fantastic job Sandy. You kept us all going when we had begun to think the tour would never happen. I have had some many emails congratulating me on organising such a fascinating tour, when really you and Michael are the ones who should take all the praise.

Thank you so much for organising this wonderful tour of Umbria for us, and quickly re-booking a flight to Pisa, when BA cancelled the flight to Rome. This must have been stressful for you but it got us in time to start our programme of visit on the Monday. With best wishes,

Your Tour Manager and your Guide were both outstandingly good. Please pass to them my warm thanks, and I believe everybody else thought the same.

We have just returned from the most wonderful trip to Hidden Umbria. Everyone loved our tour manager – he was absolutely marvellous and made sure that everything ran smoothly. We cannot praise him highly enough. The hotel was very well situated close to the old town of Spoleto and of a very high standard. The local guides were very good – especially Maura. Thank you so much for arranging this trip and being so helpful; in particular when we had to make late changes to the passenger list. On the return trip some of the party were saying ‘Where are you taking us next?’ That speaks for itself. Once again, thank you for everything.

A very enjoyable trip to Tuscany, Umbria and Hidden Italy. The tour guide was excellent and had very few problems in getting us to the required destinations each day. The arrangement in finding tour maps for each town worked well. The hotel was probably what is expected of a typical 3 star these days. A good tour and we look forward to the next.

Just a brief update on the second tour to Umbria. All went well. The guides, Antonella and Priscilla, were both popular with the group. Edo really is an excellent driver and again popular with the clients. The hotel was really good, it took just less than 5 minutes to walk to and from the hotel and the drop-off point morning and afternoon and then we were very centrally placed for shopping, sightseeing and more importantly restaurants for dinner. The staff were very friendly and the rooms were spotless. The food on the first night was excellent and drinks each evening were handled perfectly and generously and again were well received by the clients. The farewell dinner was also very good and enjoyed by everyone. Ludo is an excellent Tour Manager. I can say no more than that. He is attentive, intuitive, thoughtful, knowledgeable and a thoroughly nice man. He is the best Tour Manager that I have ever had on any tour with any company.

We had a very successful holiday in Umbria. Misia, our guide, was excellent, she was very interesting, had a great sense of humour and kept the pace just about right for our age group. All our group were very happy with their hotel room and the staff were very helpful. Please pass on most sincere thanks to all involved at TT, from our travellers. I didn't hear any complaints from anybody! All rather tired at the end but happy. A special thanks from me. This is the first time that I have taken on a holiday like this. But you gave me excellent details etc and made it very easy. Again, thanks to you all.

GD, Cheam September 2014

I just want to say thank you very much for all your hard work and attention to detail. The trip was an enormous success. Ludo is so professional and organised (and quite funny!). Bruno our driver was perfect and Priscilla - everyone loved her! The hotel and location were ideal. I consider myself rather fortunate that everything went so smoothly - but appreciate that this was mostly down to your efforts. I have received letters of thanks and appreciation - also praising your skills. Phyllis said it was the best holiday she had ever been on (she's 84)! So a big thank you from me and I look forward to working with you all again next year.

I’m writing to thank you and say all went well with the tour. We had the most wonderful sunshine and temperatures throughout. Ludo kept telling me how delighted he was to be in the centre of Perugia, and most of the others did too. He is an asset to Tailored Travel and was a joy to work with. Thank you again for helping to make it work so smoothly.
