Day 3 – Figueres, Museo Teatro & Girona

Figueres is the home town of Salvador Dalí – a guided tour of the Museo Teatro, founded in 1974 and now the most visited museum in Spain, which houses not only works by the great artist but is also the site of Dalí’s mausoleum – en route back to Barcelona we visit Girona, one of Catalonia’s most important cities, with its dominant cathedral and ancient medieval streets.

Here are some more suggested places of interest:

  • Palau de la Música Catalana - built between 1905 and 1908 by the architect Lluis Domènech i Montaner and now designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this icon of Art Nouveau combines sculpture, mosaics, stained glass and wrought iron
  • Museu Picasso - the collection, which includes more than 3,500 works, is strongest on Picasso’s earliest years, up until 1904, which is apt considering that the artist spent his formative creative years in Barcelona
  • Las Ramblas - a vibrant avenue with wonderful flower stalls, performers, cafes and shops, the Liceu Opera House and the huge Boqueria food market amid wonderful modernist architecture

Our trip to Barcelona was a great success thank you for organising a splendid five days. Everyone thought the week’s programme 1st class. Our tour manager Paul, a larger than life character, kept us well informed and safe so please thank him.

Just wanted to say how much we enjoyed this trip with you. The content and organisation was superb. Our tour guide was particularly outstanding in the professional way he dealt with us all, the knowledge he imparted and the way he kept us entertained. The local guide in Barcelona was a delight too. Thank you all.

Thank you to you and your colleagues for the arrangements which resulted in a most enjoyable tour to Barcelona which ran like clockwork! Maria proved a first rate guide and tour manager and was a pleasure to work with. The weather was perfect and, despite what appeared to be a somewhat provocative stance by the Spanish Government, Barcelona remained calm and a pleasant place to be visiting. An excellent and most enjoyable tour.

My first visit to Barcelona. I was expecting to enjoy it but it surpassed my expectations. The work of Gaudi and Dali were wonderful to see and be surrounded by. Every guide we had added to my experience and knowledge. They were informative, attentive, considerate and, above all, had bags of enthusiasm. Our tour manager also introduced us to the Metro, thus giving us confidence to freely roam in our 'spare time'. He was excellent and always good humoured. His knowledge about all aspects of Spain meant that I now have a wider understanding and sense of place of Barcelona and Spain. It was a marvellous experience. Thank you.

We had a very successful trip to Barcelona. Everyone seemed to enjoy it. The itinerary and choice of sights were much appreciated by all. Paul proved to be an excellent tour manager, very efficient and helpful with the right balance of humour and serious professionalism. He steered us round all the locations very smoothly. Both local guides were also extremely good, with the depth of knowledge and approach appropriate for our group. The accommodation was OK although my room was very small and we asked to change which they did to a much better size on the second day. Good breakfast. Several people were more than happy to eat in the hotel which offered very reasonably priced food. Others were able to walk to the shore where there was lots of choice of restaurants and/or go into the centre. All in all an excellent tour. Thanks again to Becca and Damian for all your help with the preparation.

I am writing to thank you all for your unfailing courtesy and great help in organising our Society’s tour to Barcelona. The tour went so well and everyone enjoyed themselves enormously. I look back on the tour with so many good memories and not too many problems with our members and certainly not with your organisation. Thank you, again, to you all.
