Group Organiser profile - David Moye, North Lincs DFAS

May 2016
David Moye

David Moye has been the travel organiser for North Lincolnshire DFAS and before that East Midlands Area DFAS for 10 years now. In 2013, having travelled to all parts of the British Isles, David felt it was time to expand his group’s horizons with an annual flight tour. After spotting an advert in NADFAS Review and then on the recommendation of other NADFAS travel organisers at the next Area meeting, it was to Tailored Travel that David turned for his group's first foreign venture, a tour of the Amalfi Coast, Herculaneum, Pompeii and Naples.

Your Name: David Moye

Group Name: North Lincs DFAS

Size of group: Usually around 30 drawn from 150 members.

No. of tours per year: 2 overnight tours plus day visits.

UK, Europe or worldwide?: Mostly we have visited all areas of British Isles and over the past 3 years with the assistance of Tailored Travel we have added Europe to our itinerary. Our first foreign tour was in October 2013 when 32 of us enjoyed ‘Classical Italy & the Amalfi Coast, Herculaneum, Pompeii & Naples’. That was followed in October 2014 by the same number exploring ‘The Art & History of Berlin, Dresden & Meißen’. Last year 20 of us travelled to see ‘The Art & Palaces of Vienna & The Danube Valley’.

Where are you going in 2016?: This September sees 31 of us staying closer to home and discovering the ‘Historic Houses & Heritage of Suffolk’, a chance to explore Constable Country.

Favourite destination: Our tour to Italy and the Amalfi coast and particularly Pompeii and Herculaneum, where our tour manager, Ludo, was really excellent and the hotel ‘was out of this world’.

Memorable moment: There are simply too many to make a choice as everywhere has something special to recommend it!

Most enjoyable thing about being a Group Organiser: The social aspect and seeing people enjoying themselves. Members are always so supportive and grateful for what is done for them.

Least enjoyable thing about being a Group Organiser: Waiting around at airports and arranging transportation home if someone is taken ill.

Top tip to other Group Organisers: Have faith in yourself and your organisational skills. Ask for advice and don`t take criticism to heart!!

Any thoughts on Tailored Travel’s service? I have never had any cause to complain. You are always treated with courtesy whenever in contact with Tailored Travel - nothing is too much trouble for them. The tours themselves have been really first class with excellent itineraries, hotels and tour managers.
