Itinerary
Day 1
We meet our private coach at our designated pick up point and transfer to Bristol Airport for our direct scheduled Easyjet flight scheduled to depart at 1455hrs to Venice Marco Polo Airport, arriving at 1810hrs. On arrival we are met by our tour manager who will accompany us throughout our tour. We transfer in our executive coach to the 3* Hotel la Perla in Garda for a six night stay on a half board basis. A welcome drink is served in the hotel bar prior to dinner this evening.
Day 2
Our included tour of Lake Garda combines both coach and boat and is a lovely way to see the real beauty of the Lake and its villages including Sirmione, home to Maria Callas, Limone and Gardone Riviera.
Day 3
Our full day in Mantova begins with a guided tour of the Palazzo Ducale, once one of Europe’s largest palaces and now housing a wonderful art collection including the frescoes in the ‘Camera degli Sposi’ by Mantegna. This afternoon we visit the magnificent Palazzo Te, which was built in the 16th century for the Gonzaga family. The palace includes the Sala dei Giganti (Room of Giants) where the art and architecture work together to produce striking effects.
Day 4
We make our way to Padua this morning, one of Italy's oldest university towns and the setting for Shakespeare's “Taming of the Shrew”. On arrival we visit the Cappella degli Scrovegni to see an important masterpiece of Western art by Giotto. We continue to the Basilica of Saint Anthony, one of the most visited religious sites in the world with beautiful and well preserved artwork, and which features five different architectural styles: Romanesque, Gothic, Byzantine, Renaissance and Baroque. The rest of the day is at leisure in Padua and you may choose to visit the historic Jewish Ghetto or the amphitheatre, which is older than the Colosseum in Rome.
Day 5
Today we visit Verona, often described as Italy’s fourth classical city. We visit the Museo di Castelvecchio housing a wonderful overview of Veronese paintings including works by Pisanello, Veronese and Tintoretto. We continue to the Church of San Zeno, one of Italy’s most ornate Romanesque churches. It was built to house the shrine of Verona’s patron saint and has an altar piece by Mantegna. Finally, we visit the Arena dating from 1BC.
Day 6
We travel to Trento this morning where we spend the day at leisure.
Day 7
After checking out of our hotel this morning we transfer to Venice Marco Polo Airport for our direct scheduled Easyjet flight scheduled to depart at 1305hrs to Bristol Airport, arriving at 1425hrs. We then meet our coach and travel back to our original pick up point.
