Itinerary

Day 1

We meet at London St Pancras station for our Eurostar journey to Brussels in second class coaches. On arrival in Brussels we are met by our tour manager and executive coach. We spend some time at leisure for lunch in Brussels, before continuing to the centrally located 4* Arsenaal Hotel in Delft for a four night stay. A welcome dinner is included in our hotel this evening.

Day 2

This morning we enjoy a guided tour of Delft, one of the principal artistic centres of the Northern Netherlands and famous for the works of Fabritius, de Hooch and Vermeer, who was born in Delft in 1632. This afternoon we enjoy a guided tour at the Louwman Museum, home to one of the world’s largest and most famous collections of classic cars. Dating back to 1934, the museum houses 275 classic cars, and a fine collection of automotive art. Our day concludes with a visit to the world famous miniature city of Madurodam with a remarkable selection of Dutch monuments and landmarks rebuilt on a scale of 1:25.

Day 3

Subject to availability this morning we enjoy a 60 minute presentation at the International Court of Justice in The Hague, where we learn about the history, workings and activities of the Court. We then enjoy a guided tour at the Mauritshuis in The Hague, known as the ‘Royal Gallery of Paintings’. Recently reopened after a major expansion and renovation the gallery is home to an outstanding collection with masterpieces by Rembrandt, Van Steen, Frans Hals, Ruysdael, Rubens, Van Dyck, and Vermeer, including his famous ‘Girl with a Pearl Earring’. The rest of the day is at leisure in The Hague.

Day 4

We spend the day in Rotterdam, world famous for its spectacular modern architecture. During our guided walking tour of Rotterdam this morning we are acquainted with some of the Netherlands’ most unique and modern architecture. Guided by architects, we see iconic areas of the city including the postmodern shopping area Lijnbaan, the new OMA building the Timmerhuis, and the unique Markthal. Continuing along the banks of the River Maas, we see the new high end architectural developments on the South Bank, and the symbol of Rotterdam, Erasmus Bridge. We then spend some time at leisure in Rotterdam. Later this afternoon we enjoy an included 75 minute cruise that enables us to admire Rotterdam’s impressive skyline. We then get a unique view of the harbours shipyards and docks. Covering an area of 12,600 hectares, the port of Rotterdam is the largest in Europe and its period of growth is far from over. Our cruise concludes with a view of the steamship ‘Rotterdam’, the former cruise flagship of shipping company Holland America Line. A farewell dinner is included in our hotel this evening.

Day 5

After checking out of our hotel this morning we visit the Koninklijke Porceleyne Fles in Delft. The Koninklijke Porceleyne Fles / Royal Delft is the only remaining factory of the 32 earthenware factories that were established in Delft in the 17th century. We enjoy a guided tour through the history of Blue Delft and Royal Delft and its development and production process. We see a master painter at work, visit the dining room of Vermeer and the Dutch Royal family Chamber, the museum with antique Delft pieces, the historical courtyard and visit the factory. The showroom has a comprehensive collection of handpainted Delft Blue by Royal Delft, as well as an extensive selection of Dutch earthenware and souvenirs. We return to Brussels Station for our return Eurostar train to London St Pancras in second class coaches.
