Itinerary

Day 1

We board our private executive coach and depart from our designated pick  up points. En route to Cardiff we visit the National Trust’s Tredegar House  near Newport. Set in a beautiful 90 acre park, this is one of the best  examples of a 17th century Charles II mansion in Britain, the earliest surviving  part of which dates back to the early 1500’s. We continue to the centrally  located 4* Radisson Blu Hotel in Cardiff for a four night stay on a half board  basis.

Day 2

With our Blue Badge guide this morning we enjoy an included return narrow  gauge steam train excursion from Pant to Pontsticill on the Brecon Mountain  Railway. Travelling through the scenic Brecon Beacons National Park we see  stunning views of the peaks of the Brecons and the Taf Fechan reservoir. This  afternoon we have a guided tour of Cardiff Castle which explores a history  spanning nearly 2,000 years and introduces us to the lavish interiors created  by William Burges for the 3rd Marquess of Bute.

Day 3

We visit the Royal Mint Visitor Centre this morning. During our guided factory  experience, we enter one of the manufacturing areas to discover how blank  pieces of metal are made before being struck to become coins. From a  viewing area, we see the striking hall where thousands of coins are produced,  24 hours a day. After our guided factory tour, we enjoy an included light lunch  at the Royal Mint Visitor Centre. We continue with our Blue Badge guide this  afternoon to Llandaff Cathedral for a guided tour. Dating back to 1107, the  Cathedral stands on one of the oldest Christian sites in Britain. After  attending Evensong at the Cathedral, we return back to the hotel.

Day 4

After meeting our Blue Badge guide at our hotel this morning, we have a  guided tour of Cardiff. The tour includes a visit to the Senedd, the National  Assembly Building, and the exterior of the Norwegian Sailor’s Church,  established in 1868 to provide religious and social care to thousands of  Norwegian sailors that were employed in the Norwegian merchant fleet.  During our tour, we also see the exterior of the Wales Millennium Centre.  Opened in 2004 and locally known as ‘the Armadillo’, the centre is home to  the national orchestra and opera, dance, theatre and literature companies.  Later this morning we enjoy a scenic return boat trip around Cardiff Bay, to  see the city from a different perspective. During our cruise we enjoy an  included afternoon tea. The rest of the day is at leisure in Cardiff, or you may  choose to accompany our Blue Badge guide on a visit to the National  Museum and Art Gallery of Wales, home to a wonderful collection from Wales  and across the world, including one of the best collections of Impressionist  works outside Paris.

Day 5

After checking out of our hotel and before returning home we visit the  National Trust’s Lacock Abbey, Fox Talbot Museum and Village near Bath.  Founded in 1232, many parts of this fine abbey have survived largely intact  and the Victorian woodland garden includes an 18th century summer house  and rose garden. Taking carefully selected comfort stops en route, we return  back to our original pick up points

NB: Please note we reserve the right to alter the above itinerary if required for operational reasons. Given the historic nature of the places visited, a certain degree of walking will be involved, and this holiday may not be suitable for those with mobility problems. Price based on twin share.
