Itinerary
Day 1
We board our private executive coach at our designated pick up points. En route to our hotel we visit Penshurst Place near Tonbridge in Kent for a guided tour. A ‘quintessentially English home’ to the Sidney family for over 450 years, Penshurst Place displays much of its original medieval and Tudor buildings and historic garden design. We continue to the 4* Crowne Plaza Hotel at Felbridge on the outskirts of East Grinstead for a two night stay. Dinner is included in our hotel this evening.
Day 2
Our Blue Badge guide meets us at our hotel this morning and accompanies us throughout the day. This morning we enjoy a guided tour of Charleston House, the home of the artists Duncan Grant and Vanessa Bell (sister of Virginia Woolf) that became the country meeting place for the group of writers, artists and intellectuals known as the Bloomsbury Group. On returning to our hotel, we have time to freshen up and change before our coach transfer to Glyndebourne where we take our seats for the 4pm performance of Puccini’s ‘La Bohème’. After the performance, we enjoy an included dinner at one of the excellent restaurants in the opera complex.
Day 3
After checking out of our hotel and en route home we visit Michelham Priory for a guided tour. Founded as an Augustinian priory in 1229, at the dissolution of the monasteries the church was demolished and transformed into a Tudor gentleman's residence and later a farmhouse. The building was restored in the early part of the 20th century. Set on a moated island, entrance to the property is gained through the imposing 14th century gatehouse. Taking carefully selected comfort stops en route, we return back to our original pick up points.
NB: Please note we reserve the right to alter the above itinerary if required for operational reasons. Given the historic nature of the places visited, a certain degree of walking will be involved, and this holiday may not be suitable for those with mobility problems. Price based on double/twin share. Hotel
We stay two nights at the 4* Crowne Plaza Hotel at Felbridge on the outskirts of East Grinstead (www.cpfelbridgehotel.co.uk). Facilities at the hotel include a bar, restaurant and indoor swimming pool. All rooms are ensuite and feature a hairdryer, television, tea & coffee making facilities, and an in room safe. Dinner is included at our hotel on the first evening, and we enjoy a carvery dinner at Glyndebourne after the opera on Day 2.
