Art and History of Glasgow and Edinburgh
This was our 4th tour with Tailored Travel and as we expected it was informative, well structured and fun. It's always an opportunity to get to know others in a relaxed way. And what a fabulous group - perfect time keepers. We left on time, met on time and were able to enjoy extras as a result. Our driver Peter really looked after us and Mike our superb guide took the trouble to go the extra mile for us. I can't make up my mind as to which is my favourite trip because each one is tailor made and has it's own charm and identity.
Scotland with NADFAS
The Guide we had on the trip was excellent. His knowledge was first class and well presented. The Driver was one of the 'stars' of the trip. The whole holiday was very well organised.

This was our best Tailored Travel holiday ever. Despite some trepidation about the long journey to Glasgow, the coach driver made us feel relaxed and comfortable and the distance seemed to be covered with ease. He was outstanding. Visits were well chosen and the hotel was the most congenial we have experienced on a Tailored Travel tour.

Itinerary
Day 1
We depart by executive coach from our designated pick up points and en route to our hotel we visit Tatton Park in Cheshire, one of the most complete historic estates open to visitors in England. The early 19th century house sits amid a landscaped deer park and the theme of Victorian grandeur extends into the garden. We continue to the 4* Westerwood Hotel at Cumbernauld a four night stay on half board basis. We enjoy an included welcome drink in our hotel before dinner this evening.
Day 2
With our Blue Badge guide we visit the Burrell Collection in Pollok Country Park this morning, and our guided tour on arrival introduces us to a staggering collection of over 9,000 works of art including important displays of medieval art, tapestries, alabasters, stained glass, English oak furniture and European paintings by notable artists such as Degas and Cézanne. This afternoon we have a guided tour of the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, Scotland’s most visited museum and home to one of Europe’s greatest civic art collections. We then enjoy an included cream tea at the world famous Willow Tea Rooms, designed in 1904 by Mackintosh.
Day 3
We firstly visit the village of Tarbet, a picturesque village once described by Queen Victoria as being blessed with ‘splendid passes, richly wooded with the highest mountains behind’, where there is an optional cruise on beautiful Loch Lomond. We continue with our Blue Badge guide to Helensburgh to visit Hill House. Sitting high above the Clyde, Hill House is considered one of Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s finest domestic creations. The feel of the house, which was decorated with the help of Mackintosh’s wife, is of restrained elegance combined with dazzling architecture.
Day 4
Today we visit Edinburgh for a guided tour of the National Gallery of Scotland. Including paintings by renowned artists such as Van Dyck and Tiepolo, the National Gallery is home to Scotland’s greatest collection of European paintings and sculpture from the Renaissance to Post-Impressionism eras. With our Blue Badge guide we visit the Royal Yacht Britannia this afternoon. Serving the Royal Family for over forty years, the Royal Yacht played a leading role in some of the defining moments of recent history. The audio tour takes in the State Dining Room, the Bridge and the Queen’s Sitting Room.
Day 5
After checking out of our hotel and before returning home we visit the National Trust’s Little Moreton Hall in Cheshire. Begun in 1504 and completed 100 years later, Little Moreton Hall is regarded as the finest example of a timber framed moated house in the country.

We stay four nights on half board basis at the 4* Westerwood Hotel (www.qhotels.co.uk) in Cumbernauld near Glasgow. Set in its own 400 acres of woodland, the hotel is excellently situated for the itinerary. Facilities at the hotel include a restaurant, bar, indoor swimming pool, sauna, Jacuzzi, steam room and a gymnasium. All rooms are en suite and feature television, hairdryer and tea & coffee making facilities.
