Day 1

We depart from our designated pick up point by executive coach and on arrival in Chichester we spend some time at leisure for lunch. Our guided tour at the Pallant House Gallery this afternoon introduces us to one of the most impressive collections of art in the country, in a Grade I listed Queen Anne townhouse. Pallant House Gallery boasts one of the best collections of modern British art in the UK, with works by Henry Moore, Walter Sickert, Ben Nicholson, Eduardo Paolozzi and Peter Blake. We continue to the 4* Marriott Hotel on the outskirts of Portsmouth for a two night stay on a half board basis.

Day 2

This morning we travel the short distance with our Blue Badge guide to Portsmouth Harbour for our Wightlink ferry crossing to Fishbourne on the Isle of Wight. We continue to the English Heritage’s Osborne House where we enjoy a guided tour on arrival. When Queen Victoria and Prince Albert bought Osborne and its estate in 1845, the old house was demolished and a new three-storey pavilion was built. Our scenic circular tour of the Isle of Wight this afternoon takes in sights such as The Needles and Alum Bay. During our tour, we spend some time at leisure at the picturesque village of Godshill. On arrival at Fishbourne we board a Wighlink ferry crossing back to Portsmouth.

Day 3

Today we visit the Historic Dockyard in Portsmouth. The HMS Victory stands today as the world's oldest commissioned warship and has seen over 220 years of almost continuous naval service. HMS Warrior 1860 was launched during a period of uneasy peace between Britain and her traditional enemy, France. During her heyday she was the most formidable warship the world has ever seen. Finally you can visit the brand new Mary Rose Museum. The Museum’s interior evolved from the frozen moment in time seconds before Henry VIII's flagship sank on a fine summer day on 19 July 1545 as she sailed into action against the French fleet. The excavation and raising of the Mary Rose uncovered and lifted an extraordinary collection of Tudor maritime life. When she capsized onto her starboard side, she along with tens of thousands of objects quickly settled beneath layers of protecting silts in the Solent. This provided a time capsule of the ship, her fittings, weaponry and armament, and all the possessions of her 500 crew and soldiers from the Admiral to the common sailor. Visitors to the Museum walk in between the conserved starboard section of the hull and the virtual hull constructed to represent the missing port side with all the guns on their original gun carriages, cannonballs, gun furniture, stores, chests, rope and rigging. The end galleries then interpret the context gallery deck by deck in more conventional museum display cases. Audio headsets are included during our visit to the Mary Rose Museum. Taking carefully selected comfort stops en route, we return back to our original pick up point.

NB: Please note we reserve the right to alter the above itinerary if required for operational reasons. Given the historic nature of the places visited, a certain degree of walking will be involved, and this holiday may not be suitable for those with mobility problems. Price based on twin share. Minimum numbers required. Normal booking conditions apply.
