Day 1 – Penshurst Place & Eastbourne
Board our private executive coach at your preferred pick up points – stop at a convenient property en route such as Penshurst Place near Tonbridge in Kent – once the property of King Henry VIII, Penshurst Place was given to Anne of Cleves as part of her divorce settlement and was finally gifted by Henry VIII's son, Edward VI, to his loyal steward and tutor, Sir William Sidney in 1552 and a guided tour of the house showcases paintings, tapestries and furniture from the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries, with a unique medieval Baron's Hall and decadent staterooms on show, while the gardens are among the oldest in private ownership with early records dating back to 1346 – check in at the 3* Best Western York House Hotel in Eastbourne – dinner in our hotel.
Day 2 – Brighton Pavilion & Glyndebourne opera
Our Blue Badge guide meets us at our hotel this morning and accompanies us throughout the day – a guided tour of Brighton Pavilion reveals the magnificent royal pleasure palace that was built for the Prince Regent, later King George IV, in stages between 1787 and 1823 and with its exotic oriental appearance both inside and out is still a distinctive landmark today – return to the hotel to freshen up and change before our coach transfer to Glyndebourne – on arrival at Glyndebourne we enjoy the mid-afternoon performance of your choice of opera from that season’s schedule – post-opera dinner at Glyndebourne before we return to the hotel.
Day 3 – Eastbourne & Chartwell
Free time at leisure in Eastbourne – stop at a convenient property en route home such as the National Trust’s Chartwell property in Kent, the family home of Sir Winston Churchill from 1924 until the end of his life and where the rooms and gardens remain much as they were when he lived there and contain personal memorabilia, books and family photographs – after free time for lunch, return to our original departure points with comfort stops en route.
