Day 1

We board our private executive coach at our designated pick up points. En route to our hotel we enjoy a guided tour of Ely Cathedral, known locally as ‘The Ship of the Fens’ and internationally famous for its Octagon and Lantern Towers. On arrival in Norwich we check in at the 3* George Hotel for a three night stay on a half board basis.

Day 2

Our Blue Badge guide meets us at our hotel this morning and accompanies us throughout the day. The Sandringham Estate is our destination today, set in 60 acres of splendid gardens and the much loved country retreat of Her Majesty the Queen. Built for Edward VII in 1870 the property was once described as ‘Britain’s most comfortable house’ and the museum houses extraordinary collections of royal vehicles, rare ceramics, photographs and memorabilia.

Day 3

With our Blue Badge guide we travel to Walsingham for a full day of pilgrimage. The Shrine of Our Lady at Walsingham was established in 1061 when, according to the text of the Pynson Ballad (c 1485), Richeldis de Faverches prayed that she might undertake some special work in honour of Our Lady. In answer to her prayer, the Virgin Mary led her in spirit to Nazareth, showed her the house where the Annunciation occurred, and asked her to build a replica in Walsingham to serve as a perpetual memorial of the Annunciation. On 19th August 1934, Cardinal Bourne and Bishop Lawrence Youens led the Bishops of England and Wales, together with 10,000 pilgrims to the Slipper Chapel. At this pilgrimage, the Slipper Chapel was declared to be the National Shrine of Our Lady for Roman Catholics in England. The Shrine now attracts some 150,000 pilgrims during the pilgrimage season with about 35 Major Pilgrimages from Catholic, Diocesan or Ethnic groups and Catholic Societies or Associations as well as many Parish and Overseas groups. The order of events today are as follows- (these may change) – Stations of the Cross, Angelus and Pilgrim Mass (12 noon), Rosary in the Slipper Chapel, Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and Evening Prayer. Further details of the pilgrimage can be found on the following weblink - www.walsingham.org.uk

Day 4

After checking out of our hotel and en route home we spend some time at leisure in Cambridge. On an individual basis you may choose to visit the Fitzwilliam Museum, home to a world class collection of works of art and antiquities spanning centuries and civilizations.
