Itinerary

Day 1

We meet this morning at our designated pick up point and travel with our tour manager to Portsmouth. On arrival we check in to the Royal Beach Hotel Portsmouth for an overnight stay with dinner included. Time permitting, we have a brief visit to the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard to visit some of its many attractions including the Mary Rose.

Day 2

We take our Brittany Ferries crossing to Caen this morning. On arrival in Caen we drive directly to Bayeux. Here we visit the Tapestry Museum to see the embroidery that recounts in great detail William the Conqueror’s invasion of England in 1066. We then check in to to the 3* Mercure Caen Centre Port de Plaisance Hotel for a three night stay on bed and breakfast basis.

Day 3

Today we travel south and visit the Château de Falaise, the birthplace of William the Conqueror in 1027. We then travel on to Honfleur for a guided tour of Musée Eugène Boudin, located in a 19th century chapel and named after the town’s most famous painter. The museum is home to a fine collection of impressionist works by artists such as Boudin, Dubourg, Monet and Jongkind, guided tour here.

Day 4

Our guided tour of Rouen this morning introduces us to sights such as the picturesque half timbered houses and architectural treasures including the Notre Dame Cathedral and St Ouen Abbey. In the afternoon our guided tour of the Musée des Beaux- Arts explores an outstanding collection of paintings, drawings and sculptures by renowned artists such as Caravaggio, Monet and Sisley.

Day 5

This morning we travel to Caen Port for our Brittany Ferries crossing to Portsmouth, and onwards coach travel back to our original pick up point.

NB: Please note we reserve the right to alter the above itinerary if required for operational reasons. Given the historic nature of the places visited, a certain degree of walking will be involved, and this holiday may not be suitable for those with mobility problems. Price based on twin share. Minimum numbers required. Normal booking conditions apply.

Hotel

We stay one night at the Royal Beach Hotel Portsmouth (www.royalbeachhotel.co.uk) with dinner included. We then stay three nights on bed and breakfast basis at the 3* Mercure Caen Centre Port de Plaisance Hotel in Caen (www.mercure.com). Located in the heart of Caen overlooking the marina, facilities at the hotel include a bar and restaurant, and all rooms are en suite and feature air conditioning, television and coffee/tea making facilities.
