ITINERARY
MON - UK to Spoleto
Scheduled flight from London Heathrow to Rome (call for details of regional flights) where
we are met by our tour manager and private executive coach. We transfer to the good
quality 3* Hotel Clitunno in the centre of Spoleto for a five night stay on bed and breakfast
basis. The evening is free to dine in one of the many restaurants in Spoleto.
TUE - Spoleto & Spello
We have an optional guided tour of Spoleto this morning, taking in sights such as the 14th
century Ponte delle Torri and the magnificent Duomo. In the afternoon we enjoy an
included visit to the ancient fortified hill town of Spello, known as the pearl of the Middle
Ages. The highlight of the visit is the frescoes of Pinturicchio in the Baglioni Chapel of the
Santa Maria Maggiore church which is located in the main piazza.
WED - Perugia & Assisi
We travel into the heart of the Umbrian countryside today. Our first stop this morning is at
Perugia, a delightful town dating from Etruscan times, where we have time to visit the
Galleria Nazionale dell’Umbria with its wonderful collection of Umbrian art. We then travel
on to Assisi, home to St Francis of Assisi, where an optional guided tour of the Basilica takes
in the stunning frescoes by Giotto depicting the life of this most popular of saints.
THUR - Gubbio & Palazzo dei Consoli
The medieval town of Gubbio today is our destination today. On arrival there is an optional
guided tour of this fascinating town, taking in sights such as the grandiose buildings of the
Piazza della Signoria and Palazzo dei Consoli, considered to be one of the finest expressions
of medieval city architecture in Italy. In the afternoon we enjoy a visit inside the Palazzo dei
Consoli which dates back to the 14th century.
FRI - Montefalco & Todi
In panoramic Montefalco you can
visit the Museo Civico, home to
Benozzo Gozzoli’s ‘Life of St
Francis’. We then continue on to
Todi where Gothic and
Renaissance buildings surround
the Piazza del Popolo and the
delightful plain faced Duomo
dating from the 13th century
houses a huge painting by Ferrau
da Faenza, a copy of
Michelangelo’s ‘Last Judgement’.
This evening we have the option
of a farewell dinner in the hotel
where we sample local wines
prior to enjoying an evening meal
of traditional Umbrian cuisine.
SAT - Orvieto
Early departure this morning as
we travel to Orvieto for an
optional guided tour of its
stunning Duomo which is one of
Italy’s finest cathedrals. We then
continue on to Rome for our
scheduled flight back to London
Heathrow.
