Itinerary

Day 1

We depart by executive coach from the Old Deer Park car park, Richmond at 09h00 and en route to we enjoy a guided tour of Ely Cathedral, known locally as ‘The Ship of the Fens’ and internationally famous for its Octagon and Lantern Towers. We also visit the Stained Glass Museum, a hidden treasure within the Cathedral, displaying over 100 original stained glass panels dating from the 13th century. We continue to the 3* Best Western George Hotel in Norwich for a three night stay on half board basis. We will enjoy a welcome drink before dinner this evening.

Day 2

Our Blue Badge guide meets us at our hotel this morning and accompanies us throughout the day. Norwich is England’s best preserved medieval city and our guided tour takes in sights such as the Norman Castle, the city’s two cathedrals and the City Hall. The National Trust’s Oxburgh Hall is our destination this afternoon, a moated manor house with a Tudor gatehouse and accessible Priest’s Hole. Built by the Bedingfeld family who still live here, the rooms show the development from medieval austerity to Victorian comfort and include a display of embroidery by Mary Queen of Scots and Bess of Hardwick.

Day 3

The Sandringham Estate is our destination this morning with our Blue Badge guide, set in 60 acres of splendid gardens and the much loved country retreat of Her Majesty the Queen. Built for Edward VII in 1870 the property was once described as ‘Britain’s most comfortable house’ and the museum houses extraordinary collections of royal vehicles, rare ceramics, photographs and memorabilia. We then visit Holkham Hall. Thomas Coke, the first Earl of Leicester, conceived the Palladian Hall as his vision of an Italian villa on the windswept north Norfolk coast.

Day 4

This morning we visit the National Trust’s Felbrigg Hall, a 17th century country house containing original 18th century furniture and one of the largest collections of Grand Tour paintings by a single artist. We continue to the National Trust’s Blickling Hall, Garden & Park. One of England’s great Jacobean houses, Blickling is famed for its spectacular long gallery, superb plasterwork ceilings and fine collections of furniture, pictures, books and tapestries. Taking carefully selected comfort stops en route we return back to our original pick up point.
