Day 1 – Highclere Castle
Board our private executive coach at the designated pick up points – recently featuring on the BBC drama ‘Downton Abbey’, Highclere Castle was designed in 1842 by Sir Charles Barry, the architect also responsible for building the Houses of Parliament, and is set in a ‘Capability’ Brown park – check in to the 4* Norton Park Hotel on the outskirts of Winchester.
Day 2 – Winchester Cathedral & Petworth House
Guided tour of Winchester Cathedral which originates back to the 7th century when a Christian church was first built on this site – optional one way nostalgic train journey from Alresford to Alton, on the picturesque Watercress Line, runs through the heart of Hampshire – the National Trust’s Petworth House is a magnificent late 17th century mansion containing the National Trust’s finest and largest collection of pictures including works by Turner, Van Dyck, Reynolds and Blake.
Day 3 – Historic Dockyard at Portsmouth & Uppark House
Our tickets at the Historic Dockyard at Portsmouth enable us to explore three ships, visit the Royal Navy Museum and take a Harbour Tour – HMS Victory stands today as the world's oldest commissioned warship and has seen over 220 years of almost continuous naval service – HMS Warrior 1860 was launched during a period of uneasy peace between Britain and France and in her heyday was the most formidable warship the world had ever seen – the Mary Rose was Henry VIII's favourite warship built between 1510-1511 and yet she sank on a fine summer day in 1545 as she sailed into action against the French fleet – the National Trust’s Uppark House is a fine late 17th century house, set high on the South Downs with magnificent views to the sea, and the complete servants’ quarters in the basement are shown as they were in Victorian days.
Day 4 – National Motor Museum & Mottisfont Abbey
Beaulieu, in the heart of the glorious New Forest, is home to the world famous National Motor Museum including over 250 vintage, veteran and classic cars from some of the earliest examples of motoring to legendary world rcord breakers like Bluebird and Golden Arrow – the National Trust’s Mottisfont Abbey Garden, House and Estate, once a 12th century Augustine priory and now a handsome house set amidst glorious countryside along the River Test, boasts an interesting collection of modern art and grounds offering a magnificent collection of trees, walled gardens and a National Collection of old fashioned roses.
Day 5 – Salisbury Cathedral & Stonehenge
Guided tour of Salisbury Cathedral, a beautiful historic building, an international symbol of Christianity and a world class heritage attraction – the great stone circle at Stonehenge was begun around 3000 BC in the late Stone Age and continued to evolve until about 1600 BC in the mid Bronze Age.4* hotel
