Palacio Nacional da Pena

Day 1 – UK to Lisbon

Scheduled flight to Lisbon – transfer with our guide in our private executive coach to the central 3* Hotel Eduardo VII.

Day 2 – Lisbon city tour

Half day guided tour of Lisbon taking in such sights as Pedro Square, the old medieval quarter of Alfama and the beautiful 16th century cathedral of Mosteiro dos Jeronimos – free time to relax in one of the many bars, cafes or shops or to take in further sightseeing such as visiting the Torre de Belem, the tower built as a fortress in 1515-21.

Day 3 – Sesimbra, Palmela & Parque Natural da Arrábida

At Sesimbra, a picturesque fishing village once occupied by the Romans and later the Moors, we visit the Moorish Castle offering wonderful panoramic views from the ramparts – continue to the small hill town of Palmela with time at leisure to relax and explore the sights or you may choose to join our optional tour and tasting at a local wine cellar – return to Lisbon via the scenic Parque Natural da Arrábida, established to protect the wild and beautiful landscape.

Day 4 – Palacio de Queluz, Cascais & Palacio da Pena at Sintra

Explore the exuberant Baroque and Rococco architecture and gardens at the 18th century Palacio de Queluz which have earned the palace the name of ‘Portuguese Versailles’ – travel along the picturesque Atlantic coastline en route to the fishing village of Cascais – head inland to the idyllic mountain town of Sintra, described by Lord Byron as ‘perhaps in every respect the most delightful in Europe’, where we visit the UNESCO listed Palacio da Pena, the summer residence of the Portuguese royal family during the 15th and 16th centuries and the best preserved medieval palace in Portugal.

Day 5 – Museu Gulbenkian

Guided tour of Museu Gulbenkian, one of Europe's unsung treasures, introduces us to masterpieces by Frans Hals, Rubens, Rembrandt, Fragonard and Gainsborough – transfer to Lisbon airport for our scheduled flight back home.
