Day 1 - Guided tour of Berlin
Scheduled flight to Berlin - city tour of Berlin with our guide taking in sights such as the Reichstag, Brandenburg Gate, Museum Island, Alexanderplatz, the former Berlin Wall, Checkpoint Charlie and the inside of Emperor William Memorial Church - check in to the 4* Leonardo Royal Hotel.
Day 2 - Museum Island
Full day with our guide at Museum Island, one of the finest museum complexes in the world - Pergamon Museum is the internationally renowned ancient history museum containing several wonderful artefacts including the huge Altar of Zeus from Pergamon (2nd century BC) and the famous Ishtar Gate from Babylon - Alte Nationalgalerie is home to a comprehensive collection of art of the era between the French Revolution and the First World War and featuring artists such as Caspar David Friedrich, Karl Friedrich Schinkel and Menzel, as well as works by Monet, Renoir, Cézanne and Degas - the marvellous Egyptian collection at the Neues Museum includes the exquisite limestone bust of Queen Nefertiti.
Day 3 - Gemäldegalerie, Museum of Decorative Arts & the Reichstag
Guided tour of the Gemäldegalerie housing one of the world’s finest collections of European art dating from the 13th to the 18th centuries including works by Raphael, van Eyck, Holbein, Caravaggio, Canaletto, Rubens, Vermeer and Rembrandt - after time for lunch we visit the fabulous collection at the Museum of Decorative Arts - a prebooked Kaffee und Kuchen break in the Reichstag is followed by a tour of Sir Norman Foster’s great restoration.
Day 4 - Potsdam - Sanssouci Palace & Cecilienhof Palace
Travel with our guide to Potsdam, a town set amongst woodlands and lakes with opulent palaces and gardens including the delightful Sanssouci Palace created in 1744 by Frederick the Great as his summer residence - visit Cecilienhof Palace built by Emperor William II for his eldest son, Crown Prince William, and his wife, Crown Princess Cecilie, and more recently the venue of the Potsdam Conference between the victorious Allies in 1945.
Day 5 - Charlottenburg Palace & the Jewish Museum Berlin
Guided tour of the breathtakingly splendid rooms of the Altes Schloss and Knobelsdorff Wing of Charlottenburg Palace - free time for lunch and to visit the three world class galleries of The Brohan Museum, The Heinz Bregruen collection and The Scharf- Gerstenberg collection - audio tour of the exhibitions covering two millennia of German Jewish history at the Daniel Libeskind designed Jewish Museum Berlin - transfer to the airport for our flight back home.
