SUGGESTED ITINERARY
Day 1 Dunham Massey & Drymen
We board our executive coach at our designated
pick up points. En route to Scotland we call in to
the National Trust’s country estate and mansion at
Dunham Massey in Cheshire where we have time
for a light lunch. On arrival in Drymen we check
into the 3* Buchanan Arms Hotel, a former
coaching inn and picturesquely situated in the
centre of the village, where we stay five nights on
half board basis. Dinner this evening is followed
by live music.
Day 2 Edinburgh
Today we visit Edinburgh where we have an
included guided city tour. There is then free time
in central Edinburgh to visit Holyrood House,
Princess Street or one of the many galleries,
before returning to our hotel for dinner.
Day 3 Hill House, Tarbet & Loch Lomond
This morning we travel to Helensburgh to visit
Hill House. Sitting high above the Clyde, Hill
House is believed to be one of Charles Rennie
Mackintosh’s finest domestic creations. The feel of
the house, which was decorated with the help of
Mackintosh’s wife, is of restrained elegance
combined with dazzling architecture. After a lunch
stop in the village of Tarbet, a picturesque village
once described by Queen Victoria as being
blessed with "splendid passes, richly wooded with
the highest mountains behind", there is an
optional short cruise on beautiful Loch Lomond.
We then return to the hotel for dinner.
Day 4 Royal Yacht Britannia & the National Gallery
We return to Edinburgh for a tour of the Royal
Yacht Britannia. Serving the Royal Family for over
forty years, the Royal Yacht played a leading role
in some of the defining moments of recent
history. Highlights of the visit include the State
Dining Room, the Bridge and the Queen’s Sitting
Room. In the afternoon we head into central
Edinburgh to visit the National Gallery, Scotland’s
finest gallery, or if you prefer you have free time
for shopping and to enjoy the city at your leisure
Day 5 The Burrell Collection & Glasgow
We head towards Glasgow to enjoy the Burrell
Collection in Pollok Country Park, one of the
greatest art collections created by one person
with works by Degas, Cezanne, Epstein and
Rodin. We then travel into Glascow for free time
in the city. For our final night at the hotel we
enjoy a wonderful Scottish banquet complete
with pipes and dancers.
Day 6 Tatton Park
We leave Drymen and head south. En route to
our original pick up points we stop for lunch at a
suitable National Trust property such as the
magnificent estate and mansion at Tatton Park.
