SUGGESTED ITINERARY
Day 1 UK to Venice
Scheduled flight to Venice where we are met by
our transfer representative for the transfer by
water taxi into the heart of Venice - a fabulous way
to start your time in the city. We check in to the
centrally located 3* Hotel Villa Igea for a four
night stay. For our first night we have an included
dinner at a nearby restaurant and the rest of our
stay is on bed and breakfast basis.
Day 2 City tour & Scuola Grande di San Rocco
Our first full day in Venice begins with a guided
walking tour taking in such sights as St Mark’s
Square, described by Napoleon as ‘the finest
drawing room in Europe’, the Basilica of St Mark
and the Rialto Bridge. We then move on to the
Scuola Grande di San Rocco for a guided tour of
the wonderful cycle of canvases by Tintoretto.
Day 3 The Guggenheim & Accademia
This morning we have a guided tour of the Peggy
Guggenheim Collection in the Palazzo Venier dei
Leoni on the Grand Canal. Home to the most
important collection in Italy of European and
American art of the first half of the 20th century,
we see works from Picasso, Mondrian, Dali and
Pollock. In the afternoon we have a guided tour of
the Accademia Gallery to introduce us to the
wonderful collection of Venetian art from the
14th to 18th century including works by Titian,
Carpaccio, Tintoretto and Veronese.
This evening you have the option of enjoying a
concert at the Ateneo di San Basso or Teatro
La Fenice.
Day 4 Islands of the Venetian Lagoon
You have the option of joining our full day private
boat trip to the neighbouring islands just off
Venice. We visit Murano, the island famous for its
glass making. Then on to Burano, the most
colourful of the islands with brightly coloured
houses, such as the well known Casa Bepi, lining
the waterways and easily recognisable from the
tilting tower of its church. Our final stop, Torcello,
is a complete contrast; barely inhabited, the
central piazza and its ancient buildings are a
haunting reminder of a bygone era.
Day 5 Ca’ d’Oro
Today we visit the Ca’ d’Oro – the house of gold,
one of the most beautiful Gothic palaces on the
Grand Canal and home to an excellent art
collection including works by Titian and
Francesco Guardi. In the afternoon we sadly leave
Venice taking our water taxi to Marco Polo Airport
for our scheduled flight back to the UK.
