SUGGESTED ITINERARY
Day 1 UK to Bologna
Scheduled flight to Bologna where we are met by
our tour manager and private executive coach for
the transfer to the 3* Hotel Regina in Bologna’s
historic centre for a five night stay on a bed and
breakfast basis.
Day 2 Bologna & Pinacoteca Nazionale
Morning guided tour of the buildings and
porticoed streets of Bologna, home to medieval
palaces and the oldest university in Europe. After
free time for lunch, we visit one of Northern
Italy’s finest galleries, the Pinacoteca Nazionale
housing works of the great Northern Italian
artists including Giotto, Raphael and Perugino.
Day 3 Ravenna
Today we have a guided tour of Ravenna - a
wonderful introduction to the city that was
once the capital of Rome’s Western Empire and
one of the great seats of Byzantine art in
Europe. Our tour includes the magnificent 6th
century church of Sant’ Apollinare Nuovo and
the mosaics of St Vitale and the Mausoleo di
Galla Placida.
Day 4 Mantova - Palazzo Ducale & Palazzo Te
On arrival in Mantova we have a guided tour of
the Palazzo Ducale, once one of Europe’s largest
palaces and now housing a wonderful art
collection including the frescoes in the ‘Camera
degli Sposi’ by Mantegni. After time for lunch we
visit the magnificent Palazzo Te and Giulio
Romano’s ‘Room of Giants’.
Day 5 Ferrara & Palazzo Schifanoia
Ferrara is our destination today, one of the
region’s greatest walled towns. With many
attractive streets and medieval houses, a 12th
century cathedral and the palaces of the d’Este
dynasty, this is one of Italy’s hidden gems. We
enjoy an included guided tour of the magnificent
Palazzo Schifanoia with its wonderful Cycle of the
Months fresco by Francesco Della Cossa and
Ercole de’ Roberti.
Day 6 Bologna
The morning is free for last minute shopping and
sightseeing in Bologna before our transfer to the
airport for the flight back to the UK.
