Alfonso VI in central Toledo for a five night stay on
bed and breakfast basis.
Day 2 Toledo & Royal Palace of Aranjuez
The first morning of our tour is spent on a guided
city tour taking in Charles V’s fortified Palace of
Alcazar and the magnificent cathedral dating from
the 6th century and one of the largest cathedrals
in modern day Christianity. After free time for
lunch, the afternoon is in Aranjuez where we visit
the Royal Palace and its 740 acre gardens, Spain's
most important of the Habsburg period.
Day 3 Madrid & Museo del Prado
Our full day in Madrid begins with a guided tour
of the city taking in the Royal Palace and Puerta

The rest of the day is spent at the Museo del

Velazquez as well as works by Italian and Flemish
masters.
Day 4 San Lorenzo de El Escorial & Avila
We travel to San Lorenzo de El Escorial set in the
foothills of the Sierra de Guadarrama and built in
honour of Saint Lawrence. Containing museums, chapterhouses, a church, library and sumptuous
apartments, it houses some of the most important
works of art of the royal Habsburg collections. We
then travel on to Avila, a beautiful medieval city
surrounded by the finest preserved medieval walls
in Europe with 88 turrets and nine gateways
protecting its beautiful palaces and churches.
Day 5 Segovia
We travel to Segovia today. With its narrow streets
and beautiful mansions, Segovia is best known for
its Roman churches, aqueduct, cathedral and plaza.
Day 6 Madrid
Depending on flight timings today we return to
Madrid to visit the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza
housed in the Palacio de Villahermosa. With a
collection of some 800 paintings including
masterpieces by Titian, Goya, Van Gogh and
Picasso, it is regarded by many as the most
important privately assembled art collection in the
world. We then transfer to Madrid Airport for our
flight back to the UK.
