We board our executive coach at our designated
pick up points and travel to Dover for our Channel
crossing to Calais. En route to Holland we stop in
Ghent where we have time for lunch and to see St
Bavo’s Cathedral and an opportunity to view Van
Eyck’s ‘Adoration of the Mystic Lamb’. We then
travel on to Leiden, the home of Rembrandt, and
check in to the centrally located 3* Tulip Inn where
we stay five nights on a bed and breakfast basis. The
evening is free to dine out in the hotel restaurant or
one of the many nearby restaurants.
Day 2 Amsterdam
Our day begins with a guided walking tour of the
Rembrandt Route, taking in many places that
played an important part in the old master’s life,
including Oude Kerk (Old Church), the Waag (The
Weighing House), the Royal Palace on Dam Square
and Rembrandthuis where he lived and worked for
over 20 years. After free time for lunch we meet at
Rijksmuseum for a guided tour of the world famous
art collection, the most famous of which is
Rembrandt’s ‘The Nightwatch’ but which includes
many Dutch Old Masters such as Frans Hals, Jan
Steen and Vermeer. As well as the paintings, the
collection includes sculptures, clocks, Delft Blue,
porcelain and Asian and oriental art.
Day 3 Het Loo & Kröller-Müller Museum
The Royal Palace of Het Loo in Apeldoorn is our
destination this morning. Built in 1685 as a country
residence for William III and his wife, Mary Stuart,
the palace was used as recently as 1962 by
Wilhelmina as her royal residence. After free time for lunch in the beautiful Palace gardens, we drive
the short distance to the Kröller-Müller Museum.

278 works by Van Gogh, an outstanding collection
of Chinese porcelain and many hundreds of
Delftware items.

tour of the Mauritshuis, known as the ‘Royal Gallery
of Paintings’. Again an outstanding collection with

Ruysdael, Rubens, Van Dyck and Vermeer -
including his legendary ‘Girl with the Pearl Earring’.
After free time for lunch we take the short drive to
Delft, one of the principal artistic centres of the
Northern Netherlands and famous for the works of
Fabritius, de Hooch and Vermeer, who was born in
Delft in 1632.

Golden Age.
