ITINERARY

Day 1
We take our scheduled Alitalia
flight from London Heathrow to
Rome (regional flights available on
request). On arrival in Italy we are
met by our tour manager who
will accompany us throughout our
holiday. Our private coach then
transfers us to the excellent family
run 3* Hotel Villa Ricci in
Chianciano Terme where we stay
five
nights on bed and breakfast
basis. |

Day 2
Today we have included excursion to the enchanting town of Pienza,
the location for the filming of scenes from the ‘English Patient’ and
birthplace of Pope Pius II. We then travel on to see the magnificent
41 frescoes of the Life of St Benedict at the beautiful Abbey of
Monte Oliveto Maggiore. This evening there is the option of dining
in the Palazzo Bandino, a traditional Tuscan farmhouse set in its own
olive groves (subject to minimum numbers).
Day 3
Our first stop today is the charming walled hillside medieval town of
Arezzo. The highlight among its many notable churches and
interesting museums is the fresco cycle by Piero della Francesca in
the Church of San Francesco. In the afternoon we visit Cortona, one
of the most ancient cities in Italy and home to Fra Angelico. Why not
relax and take an espresso or visit the Museo Diocesano di Cortona
with works by Donatello and Brunelleschi. |

Day 4
In panoramic Montefalco this morning you can choose to explore
this charming town at your leisure or maybe visit the Museo Civico
with works by leading Umbrian artists, the highlight being Benozzo
Gozzoli’s ‘Life of St Francis,’ or simply enjoy a relaxing drink at a
streetside café. In the afternoon we visit the ancient fortified hill
town of Spello where we have an optional guided tour taking in the
town’s main sights including the church of Santa Maria Maggiore in
the main piazza.
Day 5
Our day begins with an included trip to the stunning town of
Orvieto. A cable car takes us up to this beautiful Umbrian town
dating from Etruscan times and dominated by one of Italy’s most
stunning cathedrals. There is the option of a guided city tour. We
then travel on to the beautiful town of Viterbo with its old medieval
walls and palaces.

Day 6
We leave our hotel and head for Rome. On arrival there is an
optional guided city tour of Rome taking in such sights as the Trevi
Fountain and the Coliseum. In the afternoon we transfer to Rome
Airport for our evening scheduled flight back to the UK. |
